Texas QB Quinn Ewers having some interception issues in practice
At least from what the media apparently saw in the final weekday spring practice this week for Texas football, there was plenty to dissect from the quarterback position. Texas was looking to see the quarterbacks continue to make some notable strides as we head into another important weekend of full-pads practice.
But it sounds like second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns had some inconsistencies come about at the quarterback position in practice on April 7.
According to a report from Horns247 from practice on April 7 (paid content), freshman quarterback Quinn Ewers tossed two interceptions in 11-on-11 reps on this day. Although, this 247 piece mentions how one of those picks from Ewers wasn’t necessarily on him.
That seemingly goes to the fault of a wide receiver (who is unnamed at the moment) that would later be chewed out by new wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator Brennan Marion. Granted, Ewers went over to the wide receiver for some support after this play in practice on this day.

Moreover, the other pick sounds like it was Ewers’ fault.
It is worth noting that some practice notes from Inside Texas on April 7 (part of the On3 Network, paid content) also affirm that Ewers had some interception issues on this day’s practice. Ewers apparently wasn’t the only quarterback to toss a pick in practice on the same day, though.
Rising junior quarterback Hudson Card reportedly also threw a pick that was to his fault in practice on April 7.
The mood coming out of this April 7 practice seems to be one that sees Ewers flash while Card is steadily improving. Ewers sounds like the real wildcard that has the ability to make some huge plays before throwing an untimely pick just a few plays later.
Meanwhile, Card is becoming more vocal and consistent as spring practice moves along.
There are plenty of varied opinions of Ewers’ play coming out of practice this week. Ewers received praise from multiple sources this week, including from Sark himself. But it’s clear with days like this one that he still has a long way to go this offseason.
It really was a week of highs and lows for Ewers it seems. And that could be the tone set for the rest of spring ball as he continues to try to get adjusted to the Sark offensive concepts and scheme.
Texas began spring ball with the first practice back on March 22. We are now more than halfway through spring camp, with plenty of notes and nuggets to continue to dissect as we head into the weekend.
The spring football game is set to take place on April 23 at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
