KingJoseph Edwards, EDGE

The 6-foot-4 and 245-pound Buford (GA) four-star edge rusher/athlete KingJoseph Edwards is one of the late additions for the Longhorns among the small visitor list for this weekend in Austin. Edwards is also the highest-rated target of the Longhorns 2024 class visiting campus this weekend.

This could be an important development worth noting, though, as hosting Edwards for a visit this weekend could be the start of Sark and the Longhorns staff trying to re-establish a recruiting pipeline in the state of Georgia.

There was a point in time when former Texas head coach Tom Herman and the Longhorns had a solid pipeline established in the state of Georgia. Buford High School was an especially important pipeline for the Longhorns in Georgia too.

Moreover, Edwards would be a huge get for the Longhorns 2024 class. He’s one of the top-rated athletes in the entire country and could fill a plethora of positional needs on the Forty Acres.

The most natural position at the next level for Edwards looks to be as an edge rusher/outside linebacker. His quick get-off, insane quickness, and freakish bend in getting around opposing blockers will make him a special pass rusher and playmaker in opposing offense’s backfields when he arrives at the collegiate level.

If he plays on the offensive side of the ball, though, Edwards can use his gifted physical tools to thrive as a versatile blocker/receiving threat as a tight end. Edwards is already showing in high school that he will really thrive playing on either side of the ball.

There is still some catch up that Texas has to do in the recruitment of Edwards. SEC programs such as the Georgia Bulldogs, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Texas A&M Aggies, among others, seem to be high up on the list of Edwards. But there is still time for Texas to make a real impression on the Georgia native. And this visit weekend could be a big point in Edwards’ recruiting timeline for Texas.
