Demarvion Overshown, LB

Among the senior leaders that we heard stepped up on the defensive side of the ball for the Longhorns in this weekend’s spring scrimmage was the standout super-senior linebacker Demarvion Overshown. Pretty much all we heard coming out of this scrimmage indicated that Overshown was one of the real bright spots on either defense.

A report from Inside Texas following this weekend’s scrimmage with some nuggets from the festivities (part of the On3 Network, paid content) indicates that Overshown was one of the true stars of the game. It really sounds like Overshown was head and shoulders above the rest of the linebackers for the Longhorns in this scrimmage.

He apparently had a few key tackles for loss, quarterback pressures, and continually made important plays when he was called to drop back in pass coverage. Overshown had a very well-rounded day that presents a lot of encouraging signs before he takes part in the spring game in a couple of weeks.

Moreover, Overshown also apparently didn’t really miss any tackles in this scrimmage. That might be the most encouraging sign that we heard from his efforts this weekend.

The hits Overshown did have, though, were apparently sure tackles including one massive hit on Brooks who really had a challenging day in this scrimmage.

As anticipated, Overshown is starting to make it known that he is the leader on and off the field for this group of linebackers. It will be incredibly important for the likes of Overshown, fellow returning senior Ovie Oghoufo, and junior David Gbenda to continue to step up for the linebackers this spring.
