4 Texas players that shined in this weekend’s spring scrimmage
Quinn Ewers, QB
From pretty much everything we heard and saw in this weekend’s spring scrimmage, the most impressive player on the day was the former Ohio State Buckeyes freshman transfer quarterback and elite five-star recruit Quinn Ewers. This former coveted Texas commit sounds like he did everything the coaching staff asked of him and more in this scrimmage.
We already mentioned one of the highlighting plays on the day in this spring scrimmage for the Longhorns when Ewers hit Worthy on a 50+ yard pass for a touchdown that was nothing short of absolutely mesmerizing.
But that wasn’t the only play where Ewers made a great throw while going through all the necessary reads. He hit key touchdown passes on the day to Billingsley and Sanders. And that touchdown pass he had to the fellow former elite five-star recruit Sanders was apparently a really impressive and crazy sidearm throw when he was off-balance.
Moreover, you have to love everything we’re hearing and from what we saw from Ewers in this weekend’s scrimmage.
Ewers apparently started the scrimmage with the second team behind rising junior quarterback Hudson Card. But as he continually proved his worth on this day, Ewers would get to play more and more with the ones.
If Ewers continues to play as he did in this weekends’ scrimmage throughout the rest of spring camp and in the Orange-White Game, he will come that much closer to locking up the starting job. It also helps that Ewers made some real impressions on the staff this weekend in a positive sense while Card had some more inconsistencies running with the ones.
This is great to see as Ewers continues to make strides in the midst of his transition into Sark’s offensive schemes.
