We have arrived at another point of the offseason where the NCAA Transfer Portal is going to play a big role in the news cycle for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program. Texas has already added four players by way of the transfer portal this offseason. But the activity could be far from over in the portal for Sark and his staff in the weeks and/or months ahead.

Sark and the Longhorns staff had ties to a few different potential transfer portal targets in the last week or so. As Texas sits in the midst of spring ball, they still appear to be active in the portal with a few potential visitors in mind for the spring football game in a couple of weeks.

Texas does have limited scholarship numbers remaining this spring, though. That means that the Longhorns need to use the scholarship spots they do have remaining on the roster at this point of the offseason with players that will really help to move the needle heading into the 2022 season.

Given that, the coaching staff will have to be very tight with their evaluations and fits with the team both in terms of positional/schematic needs and culture fit. Texas clearly didn’t do the greatest job in terms of the personnel evaluation out of the transfer portal last offseason, which created some of the issues with the on-the-field performance last fall.

With that in mind, here’s a look at three potential spring transfers for the Longhorns that could help get this team at least one step closer to contending for a Big 12 title in 2022.
