One of the most emphatic players to land in the NCAA Transfer Portal so far this spring is also apparently an emerging target for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program. This player of note that is an emerging target for Texas in the transfer portal this spring is the former touted four-star recruit and freshman Alabama Crimson Tide wide receiver Agiye Hall.

A report from On3 on April 11 (paid content) indicates that Texas does at least have some interest in pursuing Hall out of the transfer portal. It’s hard to tell right now from what was reported on this situation thus far exactly how interested Texas is in Hall, or where they stand in regard to other schools pursuing him at the moment.

But this On3 report did mention the fact that there are a number of other schools involved in the pursuit of Hall out of the portal since last week.

That news has certainly brought about some mixed reactions from the Longhorns faithful and those in the media. While Hall is certainly going to be one of the most talented and potent skill position players that enter the portal this offseason, there are questions regarding his status following his departure from Alabama.

Texas football now has reported interest in Alabama transfer WR Agiye Hall

Head coach Nick Saban essentially stated last week that Hall was suspended for a violation of team rules. But he did not get too specific on the matter before Hall was able to put his name in the portal soon after.

Moreover, Hall does have some connections to this coaching staff from the time when he was recruited to Alabama. His primary recruiter during his recruitment out of high school was the current Texas special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks. Sark also likely has a good level of familiarity with Hall, who would be a very versatile and seamless fit in his offensive scheme (at least on paper).

Depending on how this coaching staff assesses the level of risk that pertains to bringing Hall into this program after all the changes Sark and Co. already made this offseason, Texas could be a serious contender to get his commitment. But we’ll continue to follow this storyline as it develops likely in the next few days.

Texas has already landed one wide receiver commitment out of the transfer portal so far this offseason, which came in the form of the former Wyoming Cowboys breakout redshirt freshman wide receiver Isaiah Neyor. Heading into spring ball, it didn’t look like wide receiver was a priority for this staff in the portal anymore. But that mindset could be shifting with Hall in the mix now.
