With spring ball nearing its conclusion this offseason for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program in a little more than a week, it’s worth taking a look back at what’s transpired in practice thus far for the last few weeks. Texas officially began spring practice back on March 22.

And with the Orange-White spring football game set to take place at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on April 23, there are only a handful more practices remaining.

Texas has made progress in certain areas on each side of the ball in spring camp thus far. But some of what we’ve heard coming out of camp in the last few weeks does leave something to be desired for the fans.

Which underrated Texas football players could be making the move to starting spots thanks to strong spring showings?

For instance, Texas is still trying to address some positional needs on each side of the ball this offseason such as at linebacker and along the offensive line. Texas is also hitting the portal to try and address a glaring positional need at edge rusher. That is where Texas is hoping to add the former TCU Horned Frogs two-time All-Big 12 senior edge rusher/defensive Ochaun Mathis when he announces his decision out of the NCAA Transfer Portal in a couple of weeks.

Yet, there are still some aspects to be excited about regarding the Longhorns’ outlook on each side of the ball. One example of that is the progressions made by the former Ohio State Buckeyes freshman transfer quarterback Quinn Ewers. It sounds like since the scrimmage last weekend Ewers is starting to make a more positive impression on the coaching staff.

But he’s not the only one.

With that in mind, here’s a look at three underrated Longhorns players that could have earned starting spots coming out of spring camp.
