Second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff are very busy making moves in the NCAA Transfer Portal to try and build up the roster for the Texas football program with roughly one week remaining in spring camp. Texas is one of the more active Power Five programs in the transfer portal at this point of the offseason.

It appears that Sark and the Longhorns staff aren’t entirely satisfied with the depth on hand on each side of the ball at this point of spring ball. Texas seems intent on adding a least a handful more portal players this offseason.

And with one of the biggest waves of significant transfer portal entrants surfacing this spring through the remainder of the offseason, now is the time for the Longhorns to make any necessary moves to build up the roster ahead of next season. Texas could be facing a stretch of upcoming days and/or weeks that gets even busier in terms of additions to the roster via the transfer portal.

Which recent Texas football transfers could turn into stars in 2022?

Big-time portal targets such as the two-time All-Big 12 former TCU Horned Frogs senior edge rusher/defensive end Ochaun Mathis, Alabama Crimson Tide talented freshman wide receiver Agiye Hall, and rising senior UCLA Bruins linebacker Caleb Johnson could all be arriving at decisions soon. Mathis is an especially big name to watch for Sark and the Longhorns staff with an upcoming decision out of the portal later this month.

Yet, with all this hype out of the transfer portal for the Longhorns this offseason should also come a certain amount of reflection of what the program lost to the portal in the last few years. There are a good number of former Longhorns that found more success elsewhere since leaving the program via the portal in the last few offseasons.

With that in mind, here’s a look at four former Texas transfers that could become stars in 2022.
