Predicting Texas’ next transfer portal addition after WR Agiye Hall
Caleb Johnson, LB
Now, we’re getting into the real meat and bones of predicting who the next transfer addition could wind up being for the Longhorns.
The most recent portal target that the Longhorns hosted this week is also a player that fans on the Forty Acres should continue to watch in the near future. The former UCLA Bruins All-PAC-12 linebacker and rising super senior Caleb Johnson was targeted by Texas almost immediately after his name surfaced in the portal last week.
A former Longhorns enrollee himself, Johnson looks to have Texas as one of his top two schools very soon after originally putting his name in the portal last week. It looks like his recruitment this week is down to just Texas and new head coach Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes.
Johnson could help fill some of the depth needs that the likes of co-defensive coordinators/linebackers coaches Pete Kwiatkowski and Jeff Choate have at the linebacker position this offseason. He could come in and compete for a starting spot at inside linebacker with someone like rising junior Jaylan Ford.
But even if Texas misses out on Johnson in the portal whenever he announces his decision later this offseason, the fans should still be confident that Ford would be a quality starter at inside linebacker. Missing out on Johnson definitely wouldn’t be a reason to press the panic button for the Longhorns faithful.
On the other hand, if the coaching staff has evaluated him and he ultimately decides to give his pledge to Texas over Miami, that would be a nice addition for the linebacker room.
