The most notable transfer portal by a mile for the Longhorns at this point of the spring is the former TCU Horned Frogs two-time All-Big 12 senior defensive end/edge rusher Ochaun Mathis. Texas is waiting on a decision to come down from Mathis potentially within the next week.

Mathis announced on his Twitter timeline earlier this month that he would be announcing his decision before the end of this month.

And it now looks like the Longhorns and Nebraska Cornhuskers are the top two schools at this point in the race to land a commitment out of the portal from Mathis. But you would have to say that Texas holds the edge over the Huskers at the moment in the recruitment of Mathis out of the portal.

Mathis had originally scheduled his Texas official visit this semester to come during the Orange-White spring football game on April 23. Yet, he still took it upon himself to make the trip to Austin last weekend for what will be his third visit in the last couple of months.

The fact that Texas could soon be getting a commitment from an edge rusher such as Mathis that has so much proven production and potency that he brings out of the portal is nothing short of thrilling. Adding more punch to the pass rush is a big-time goal this offseason for Kwiatkowski. And he could get help in this regard right away by adding a proven pass rusher in Mathis.
