Prince Dorbah, EDGE/OLB

There aren’t all that many Longhorns scholarship players outside of the two-deep depth chart from last year that had a more critical spring camp this offseason than the Highland Park product and redshirt sophomore edge rusher/outside linebacker Prince Dorbah. Texas needed the former blue-chip recruit to show out in spring ball this year if he wanted any shot to hold a significant role in the defensive front this fall.

Unlike Liebrock, Dorbah’s reps weren’t really limited over the last few seasons due to injury issues. And unlike Wright, Dorbah isn’t buried behind a plethora of talented former blue-chip recruits at his position on the depth chart.

The fact of the matter for Dorbah is just that he hasn’t made the necessary strides to get starting reps either at linebacker or as a true edge rusher. That was the case for him under Todd Orlando, Chris Ash, and now Pete Kwiatkowski.

Now, there is a world where Dorbah can crack the two-deep depth chart and finally start to make the strides he needs to get significant reps along the defensive front in 2022. He is getting some second-team reps coming off the edge this spring. Whether he can hold onto that spot is a question that will be answered by the time fall camp arrives.

Yet, it only feels like a matter of time before a player with physical gifts and talent that still proves he could be an FBS starter such as Dorbah wants out. If Dorbah doesn’t see a path to legitimately sealing a spot on the two-deep depth chart with Texas in camp, it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest to see his name in the portal later this offseason.
