5-Star QB Arch Manning likely won’t visit Texas for spring game
The biggest target for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff in the 2023 Texas football recruiting class is definitely the elite five-star Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning. The insanely highly touted Louisiana native sits at the very core of how Sark and his coaching staff envision the 2023 recruiting class taking shape this year.
And the Longhorns recently hosted Manning on his first unofficial visit to Austin of 2022 in the midst of spring camp. Arch’s visit to Austin this spring officially transpired back on March 24, which was the first major visit weekend in the midst of spring camp for the Longhorns.
Texas now looks to sit in a group of top schools in the race to land a commitment from Manning that also figures to include namely the Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide. But it also looks like we can’t completely count out the likes of the Virginia Cavaliers, LSU Tigers, and Florida Gators.
Granted, it looks like the trio of Texas, Alabama, and Georgia, have the best shot to eventually win the Manning sweepstakes by a good margin over the other aforementioned trio of trailing schools.
But one of the rising headlines early in spring ball on the recruiting trail for the Longhorns looked to be that Manning might actually make a second trip to Austin before the conclusion of the Orange-White spring football game on April 23.
Texas football probably won’t get Arch Manning on campus for the spring game
If Texas was able to get Manning on the books for a second visit in the matter of one month, that would be a notable indication of where they sit among his top schools.
Although, a report from Inside Texas this week (paid content) indicates that Manning isn’t likely to visit Texas for the spring game this weekend. Manning doesn’t have any visits scheduled with any of his top schools that we know of yet.
Texas shouldn’t take Manning foregoing on a visit for the spring game this weekend as a sign of negative things to come as we anticipate a decision from him maybe during the summer. While getting him on campus this weekend would be a sure-fire positive sign of where Texas sits among his top schools, it’s no reason to panic that he won’t be visiting.
One aspect of this whole saga between the Longhorns and Manning on the recruiting trail is the fact that Texas could be starting to close in a commitment from his teammate and three-star Isidore Newman tight end Will Randle. If Texas can seal the deal with Randle in the near future, that would do nothing but help their cause in the race to land a commitment from Arch.
Manning has now visited Texas three times since last summer. And it’s certainly possible we could see another visit or two for Manning in Austin during the summer. We’ll continue to monitor his recruitment as the storylines develop throughout the offseason.
