On the afternoon of April 21, the news surfaced from second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian that the Texas football program won’t be participating in the usual format for their annual Orange-White spring game this weekend. Texas was originally set to take part in the spring football game at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on April 23, with start time set for 6 p.m. CT.

And it looks like the Longhorns will still be starting the festivities at 6 p.m. CT on April 23. It sounds like Texas will just be taking part in more of a scrimmage-style format for this weekend instead of the usual spring football game.

Texas is going to be staying from the usual spring game format due to a lack of numbers along the offensive line. After the news came down this week that the rising redshirt sophomore offensive tackle Andrej Karic would miss the spring game due to an ankle sprain, offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood and the Longhorns were down to a single-digit number of scholarship offensive linemen.

Which Texas football players will be hurt by the team not playing in an actual spring game?

Due to the fact that Texas would’ve had to run some former walk-ons along the offensive line just to get the necessary number of starters on the field for each play, it does make sense to do a situational scrimmage instead of the traditional spring game.

But the fact of the matter is that not having the usual scored spring game will hurt some of the players that are looking to prove themselves to conclude spring camp. There are always at least a handful of players that get additional recognition by way of the spring game. And it helps a lot of the new additions to the program get more adjusted to something similar to the feel of the pace of the game.

With that in mind, here’s a look into four Longhorns players that could be hurt by the spring game being negated for more of a scrimmage-style format this weekend.
