Casey Cain, WR

In terms of the path forward for the former under-the-radar three-star recruit and rising sophomore wide receiver Casey Cain to get additional playing time in 2022, this week was rough. Sark and new wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator Brennan Marion landed their second addition out of the NCAA Transfer Portal this offseason a few days ago.

Texas landed a commitment out of the portal from the former touted blue-chip recruit and freshman Alabama Crimson Tide wide receiver Agiye Hall a couple of days ago.

Cain will have a more challenging time trying to make his way onto the two-deep depth chart this fall with Texas getting both Hall and the former Wyoming Cowboys breakout redshirt freshman wide receiver Isaiah Neyor out of the portal this offseason.

Moreover, Cain spent much of spring ball taking second-team reps and he even had one of the most exciting highlight plays on a nice throw from freshman quarterback Quinn Ewers where he made a one-handed catch for a touchdown.

But the fact that Cain won’t be able to try and show off in the spring game as he did in certain instances in practice in the last few weeks will be a detriment to his cause to hold a more critical role in the wide receiver room in 2022. Cain will truly be facing an uphill battle to really get any significant reps come this fall.
