Texas Basketball: 3 best transfer landing spots for Devin Askew
One of the big early departures from the Texas basketball program for head coach Chris Beard in the NCAA Transfer Portal this offseason came courtesy of the defensive standout sophomore guard Devin Askew earlier this week. Askew put his name in the transfer portal on April 19, after spending just one season playing for Beard and Texas.
Askew was the second Longhorns player to enter the transfer portal this offseason. He is also the second guard to enter the portal as of the afternoon of April 20. The other guard is the former blue-chip recruit and rising super senior guard Courtney Ramey.
Losing Askew and Ramey is notable for Beard and the Longhorns staff this year. Both made various contributions on both ends of the floor to help Texas’ backcourt unit put up a fight night in and night out in the Big 12.

Ramey was one of the more proven two-way guards in the Big 12 as of last season. And Askew was one of the most underrated defensive stoppers on the perimeter in the Big 12 last season.
Moreover, Askew was the most surprising transfer portal entrant for Beard and the Longhorns so far this offseason. It felt like he was on the right track after his first year playing for Texas. But now, he’s in the portal for the second time in his collegiate career to date, seeking out his third team to play for.
With that in mind, here’s a look at three potential landing spots for Askew out of the portal this offseason.
