For the second straight day, head coach David Pierce and No. 10 ranked Texas baseball was able to absolutely dismantle the Big 12 foe Baylor Bears. Texas topped Baylor to move their winning streak to two games in the first outing of this three-game weekend series on April 22.

Pierce and the Longhorns got the series-opening win over Baylor at home by the insane final score of 20-1. That was the biggest blowout win of the season so far for the Longhorns.

And Texas kept rolling right through the Bears in the second game of this weekend series on the afternoon of April 23. While Texas wavered a little bit at first, giving up a two-run lead to Baylor on two different occasions at the start of the game, the bats really took hold after the third inning.

Behind 16 hits, no errors, and a whopping four home runs, Texas was able to top Baylor on April 23 by the final score of 13-4. This now makes it a margin of 28 runs that the Longhorns beat Baylor in the first two games of this series.

The duo of Trey Faltine and Douglas Hodo III led the way for the Longhorns with the bats so far this weekend. In the last two games, Hodo has two home runs, six runs batted in, six hits, five runs, and one walk. This is the best two-game stretch of the season so far for Hodo.

Meanwhile, Faltine also continued his hot streak to start the weekend. Faltine has now registered one home run, a whopping seven runs batted in, six hits, five runs, and two walks against Baylor in the last couple of days.

But if you go back to the win over the Air Force Falcons back on April 20, Faltine adds another home run, three hits, and three runs batted in.

Faltine is red-hot in the last few games for the Longhorns. And Faltine is getting hot at the right time for Texas as the offense was starting to sputter out a bit dating back to the April 19 convincing 12-run loss to Air Force.

Texas has clearly responded well following the series loss last weekend to the Kansas State Wildcats and the disappointing April 19 loss to Air Force.

It’s also worth noting that the Longhorns got a really solid outing on the mound from the ace Pete Hansen on April 22. Hansen allowed just one earned run while picking up the win over Baylor on April 22. And then, the Texas bullpen picked up the pieces for Tristan Stevens as they didn’t give up a single earned run in the final few innings of work on April 23.

You have to be extremely impressed by what we saw from the Longhorns in the last couple of days. The bats gave Texas a whopping 36 hits, nine home runs, and 33 runs to start this series against the Bears.

The defense and pitching were also solid through two games with five earned runs and no errors.

Following this dominant nine-run win over Baylor on April 23, the Longhorns have won three straight games. That gives Faltine and the Longhorns a record of 29-13 (8-6 Big 12) as they ready for the series finale at home at UFCU Disch-Falk Field against Baylor on April 24, with the first pitch time set for 1 p.m. CT.
