WATCH: Texas QB Quinn Ewers hits Isaiah Neyor with beautiful deep ball
The non-standard format Orange-White spring football game is underway on the night of April 23 for head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program. While Texas isn’t playing in the traditional Orange-White scored-spring game, the actual started off looking like a pretty regular spring game on this night.
And one of the early highlighting plays in the spring game came courtesy of the former elite five-star recruit and Ohio State Buckeyes freshman transfer quarterback Quinn Ewers. The former Texas commit and Southlake Carroll High School product had a fantastic throw that really put his insane arm talent on display early on in this one.
Ewers hit the former Wyoming Cowboys breakout redshirt freshman transfer wide receiver Isaiah Neyor with a deep ball that went for more than 60 yards for a touchdown. That play definitely got the Longhorns faithful on their foot at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium early on.
Texas football gets off to an electric start in the spring game with Quinn Ewers hitting Isaiah Neyor on a pretty deep ball
This is the type of arm talent that Longhorns fans were raving about since Ewers first committed to Texas out of the transfer portal a few months ago. Ewers took the time and room that the offensive line gave him and put the ball right on the money to let Neyor trot into the end zone for six points.
Ewers hitting Neyor on this deep ball was really the first big highlighting play that came out of the spring game on this night. But this was definitely a good one to start off with. It is the type of play that can give Ewers confidence to get in rhythm for the rest of the spring game.
And if Ewers can cap off spring ball on a high note, he should have confidence to make the necessary strides to take the starting quarterback job as this offseason progresses.
Moreover, it’s also good to see Neyor making this play early in the spring game. Neyor is one of the most hyped-up transfer portal additions in this signing class for the Longhorns. And he was able to put his value on full display right away this weekend.
The spring game will round out camp for Ewers, Neyor, and the Longhorns coming out of this weekend. Texas is set to open up the 2022 regular season at home at DKR on Sep. 3 against Louisiana-Monroe.
