Now that spring camp has officially concluded for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program with the spring game wrapping up on the night of April 23, the focus will turn to the recruiting trail and predictions for the upcoming season. It is a good while, though, before Texas is set to take part in fall camp. Summer workouts and the summer visit season are really all that exists between now and the beginning of fall camp in August.

Sark and the Longhorns staff did see this team make some necessary strides on each side of the ball, though, throughout the last few weeks in spring ball. Texas did see more apparent progress on the offensive side of the ball than the defense in spring camp, at least over the last couple of weeks.

How did new Texas football QB Quinn Ewers fair in the spring game last weekend?

One reason for the excitement surrounding the progression of the Texas offense is the strides that the former Ohio State Buckeyes freshman transfer quarterback and elite five-star recruit Quinn Ewers made during spring ball. While Ewers didn’t lock up the starting job to conclude spring camp, it looks like he could be gaining an edge on rising junior quarterback Hudson Card at this point of the offseason.

Ewers had some big-time flashes during spring ball and the spring football game last weekend. But we obviously have to take these flashes into perspective as spring ball will be different than live game reps this fall. And there are still some necessary strides Ewers needs to make in fall camp before he’s ready to take the full reigns of the offense for this coming season.

With that in mind, here’s a look into a comprehensive breakdown of what we saw from Ewers in the spring game over the weekend.
