For the second time in his collegiate career to date with the Texas football program, the rising redshirt junior defensive lineman and former blue-chip recruit Myron Warren is entering the NCAA Transfer Portal. This is also the second time in the last three offseasons that Warren has entered his name in the transfer portal.

But the last time Warren entered the portal, back during the 2020 offseason, he would return to the Forty Acres before the start of that season.

Warren posted on his Twitter timeline on the late morning of April 26 that he will be entering the portal this offseason. He’s doing so following the conclusion of spring ball in the altered version of the annual Orange-White spring football game which took place on April 23.

Texas football sees DL Myron Warren emerge in the transfer portal for the second time in two years

Included in the message he posted on Twitter announcing his transfer from Texas, Warren also noted that he will have three years of eligibility remaining. He also seemingly highlighted the fact that he wnats to “further my success on and off the football field to reach my goal and one day to play at the next level”.

That is pretty indicative of the fact that Warren wasn’t likely looking at much playing time this coming season. He is probably going to be one of at least a few Longhorns players that enters the portal post spring-ball for this same reason.

Moreover, Warren was originally recruited to Texas out of Many High School in Louisiana. Former Texas defensive line coach Oscar Davis was the primary recruiter that pursued Warren from the Longhorns staff during his recruitment out of high school.

Warren got his first defensive snaps with Texas last fall. He took nearly two-dozen defensive snaps for the Longhorns last season, where he registered three combined tackles (one solo tackle and two assisted).

It seems much less likely this time around that Warren will wind up returning to Texas after entering the portal compared to two offseasons ago. Texas is much deeper along the defensive line this year than they were in 2020, making it much more difficult for Warren to find a path to playing time moving forward.

Texas finished up last season with a record of 5-7 (3-6 Big 12), missing out on bowl season for the first time since 2016. The Longhorns are set to open up the 2022 regular season on Sep. 3 at home against Louisiana-Monroe.
