Alabama pushing for 4-Star 2024 Texas WR/DB commit Aeryn Hampton

The highest-rated commit at the moment in the 2024 Texas football recruiting class is the highly touted four-star Daingerfield (TX) wide receiver/defensive back Aeryn Hampton. Texas landed the commitment of Hampton back on Feb. 14. The commitment of Hampton came a little more than one month after he de-committed from head coach Dave Aranda and the Baylor Bears.

This was a big get for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns to add Hampton in the 2024 class. But it looks like there are still a number of other top college programs around the country that are assuming that the recruitment of Hampton is still open.

There are a number of offers that Hampton received since committing to Texas back on Feb. 14. Some of the more significant offers that came his way since that time came from the LSU Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, Michigan Wolverines, and Mississippi State Bulldogs.

But it is the offer from Alabama that we’re really taking a closer look at here. The fact that head coach Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide are pursuing Hampton, despite his standing commitment to the Longhorns, is very significant news on the recruiting trail.

You always have to assume Alabama will be a serious threat when they put this type of attention and effort on the recruiting trail to a standing commit to another school.

Alabama specifically offered Hampton on April 26. This offer came as Alabama is clearly heightening the priority they’re placing on the recruitment of Hampton. We likely wouldn’t see an offer sent by Alabama to Hampton if not for wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins finding traction right away with him this spring.

And it looks like the next steps for Alabama now that they’re inserting themselves in the race to secure a commitment from Hampton will be getting him on the books for a visit this summer.

Another school worth noting that recently offered Hampton is LSU. New head coach Brian Kelly and the Tigers offered Hampton back on April 13 and then hosted him for a visit last weekend. LSU does seem to be finding traction with Hampton this spring.

The fact of the matter is that Hampton is likely going to keep talking with other schools and probably taking other visits throughout this offseason. He recently took a visit with head coach Jimbo Fisher and the Texas A&M Aggies unofficially last month. And we could see him visiting at least a few other schools during the summer.

Texas currently holds commitments from two recruits in their 2024 class. Hampton is the higher-rated of the two with the other commit being the potent four-star Aledo defensive back Jaden Allen.
