Ex-Texas RB Keaontay Ingram goes to Cardinals in NFL Mock Draft
We are now a little more than 24 hours away from the start of the 2022 NFL Draft, which will see potentially a couple of former Texas football players drafted over the course of the next few days. This is likely going to be one of the thinnest draft classes we’ve seen in recent memory come out of the Texas program.
One former Longhorn worth watching in the festivities in the days ahead for the 2022 NFL Draft, though, is the senior USC Trojans running back Keaontay Ingram. A three-year player at Texas and one-year starter at USC, Ingram was one of the bigger entrants to the NCAA Transfer Portal from the Longhorns football program last offseason.
And he had a solid senior campaign playing for the Trojans in the PAC-12 South last fall.
Last season with the Trojans, Ingram racked up 911 rushing yards on 156 carries (5.8 yards per attempt), five rushing touchdowns, and 156 receiving yards on 22 catches (7.1 yards per catch), with no receiving touchdowns. Ingram tallied up the second season of his collegiate career last year with at least 1,000 total yards.

Moreover, the solid showing during Ingram’s senior campaign has led to some NFL Draft hype. Heading into last season, there were questions as to whether Ingram would even be ready for the draft this year. And even those that considered Ingram potentially ready for the draft had questions regarding whether he could avoid going undrafted.
It appears that Ingram has better chances than not to be drafted this year, though.
In fact, in a recent seven-round 2022 NFL Mock Draft from ESPN’s Matt Miller on April 26 (insider content), Ingram was picked up in the seventh round (256th overall) by the Arizona Cardinals. That would place him as the only current and/or former Longhorns player from recent years that was picked up in the draft.
This mock draft from Miller of ESPN had both former Texas starting senior defensive back Josh Thompson and senior kicker Cameron Dicker going undrafted.
It will be interesting to see where Ingram falls in the 2022 draft. In all likelihood, he will be picked up on day three of the festivities assuming he’s able to avoid going undrafted.
The 2022 NFL Draft is set to begin with the first round taking place on April 28. And then, the festivities for the draft will wrap up this coming weekend, with day three set to take place on April 30.
