4 former elite Texas recruits bound to be first-round NFL Draft picks

The 2022 NFL Draft is just hours away from starting on the night of April 28, and there will likely be some Texas football fans glued to their TVs to witness the first round go down. Texas doesn’t have a strong draft class coming out from their program this year, but there are still some in-state players worth watching during the festivities over the course of the next few days.

There are only really a couple of Longhorns players in this NFL Draft class that even have a shot of getting picked up on day three. Those two are the senior defensive back Josh Thompson and senior kicker Cameron Dicker.

Moreover, there are some notable names to Longhorns fans that are likely to hear their names called on the first or second days of the NFL Draft, though. Some former touted Texas blue-chip recruits, mostly from the 2018 and 2019 recruiting cycles, will now be taking their talents to the next level.

Which former blue-chip Texas football recruits could be picked in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft?

While this will serve as a bit of a harsh reminder of what Texas has missed out on during some of the down years in the last decade or so for this football program, it also serves as a glimpse into what could be to come for head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns. You have to learn your lesson from what happened in the recent past to be able to figure out how to move this program forward.

With that in mind, here’s a look at four former elite Longhorns recruits that could be first-round picks in the 2022 NFL Draft.
