3 massive transfer portal losses for Texas football ahead of spring deadline
Kelvontay Dixon, WR
Potentially the most impactful loss for Sark and the Longhorns to the transfer portal on April 29 came when the news surfaced that Texas could be losing the former blue-chip recruit and rising sophomore wide receiver Kelvontay Dixon. The news that Dixon would be entering the transfer portal came almost at the exact same time as the announcement from Harrison.
But Texas is clearly going to be losing more game reps and a wideout that probably would’ve made it onto the two-deep depth chart this fall had he stuck around through the summer. Dixon was an important depth wideout for the Longhorns entering spring ball this offseason.
Yet, there is always still a chance that Texas could eventually get Dixon back out of the portal. If he doesn’t find his next landing spot out of the portal soon, he might consider returning to the Forty Acres later in the offseason.
If Dixon is transferring due to a challenge of getting important live game reps, then he had less reason to leave than Harrison. Dixon took more than 175 offensive snaps in the last two seasons combined for the Longhorns. He registered a dozen catches for 176 receiving yards (14.7 yards per catch) and one touchdown during that span.
On the other hand, though, Dixon could be reading the writing on the wall with Sark and Marion really turning over the wide receiver room since last spring. If Dixon is entering the transfer portal post-spring ball, that might mean Texas is not done yet targeting wideouts this offseason.
