In what could be the most important weekend series at home during the regular season for No. 10 Texas baseball and head coach David Pierce, a key test lies ahead against the No. 8 Oklahoma State Cowboys. Texas can continue to build momentum in the Big 12 and start to prove they are still the class of this conference by downing Oklahoma State this weekend.

The Longhorns are coming off a comfortable 7-2 win over UTRGV back on April 26 ahead of this series opener against the Pokes. That triumph over UTRGV earlier this week gives Texas a five-game winning streak heading into this matchup against Oklahoma State. Texas now boasts a record of 31-13 (9-6 Big 12).

Meanwhile, Oklahoma State comes into this series opener against Texas with a record of 28-13 (10-5 Big 12) following their 12-6 win on the road over the Wichita State Shockers on April 26. But Oklahoma State did drop their last full series in Big 12 play as they fell short in two of three tries against the TCU Horned Frogs last weekend.

Here’s a look at the betting odds, TV/streaming information, and game prediction as Texas gets set to host Oklahoma State in this opener to a three-game weekend series at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on April 29 with the first pitch time set for 6:30 p.m. CT.

Texas baseball vs. Oklahoma State pick

This series promises to be one of the best and most exciting of the season so far for the Longhorns. That is if Texas and Oklahoma State both play to the level Big 12 baseball fans know they can when they’re performing at or near peak efficiency.

In the series opener, there is a good matchup on the mound. Texas will have their ace and redshirt sophomore left-hander Pete Hansen going up against Oklahoma State’s ace and right-hander Justin Campbell on April 29.

Hansen boasts a record of 7-1, with a 2.70 earned run average. His last start resulted in a win over the Baylor Bears in the series opener last weekend. Hansen gave up just one earned run and five hits in 5.0 innings on the mound. In that win over Baylor, Hansen also struck eight batters out and only allowed one walk.

Moreover, Pierce and the Longhorns will need the bats to come through in a big way in this weekend series. Texas is scorching hot with the bats of late, including an outburst against Baylor that saw them put up 46 runs in three games.

Texas has also scored at least seven runs in each of the last five games. Four of those games saw the Longhorns post at least a dozen runs, dating back to a win over the Air Force Falcons last week. If Texas can get this type of offensive output again vs. Oklahoma State to open up this series, they should come away with a big-time win.

Final score prediction: Texas-6, Oklahoma State-5
