Texas basketball transfer target Fardaws Aimaq announcing today
Possibly the highest priority target out of the NCAA Transfer Portal at the moment for head coach Chris Beard and the Texas basketball program is the former Utah Valley and Mercer redshirt junior big man Fardaws Aimaq. And with there now being a decision date set for Aimaq out of the transfer portal, the stakes are raised entering the weekend for Texas.
Aimaq announced on his Twitter timeline late in the afternoon of April 28 that he will be publicly announcing his decision on April 29 at Noon.
Texas is one of the schools involved in the mix to land a commitment from Aimaq out of the portal. Aimaq looks to be down to around five schools at this point including the Washington Huskies, Iowa Hawkeyes, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Gonzaga Bulldogs, and Texas.
But the sentiment surrounding the decision of Aimaq seems to be that there is a top three for him that includes Texas, Texas Tech, and Washington.

If that is the case, then Beard and the Longhorns look to be sitting in a really good position in the race to land a commitment from Aimaq out of the portal on April 29.
Texas could really use this addition to their frontcourt unit as Aimaq would bring a very dynamic skill set to the table as a gifted scorer, efficient floor spacer, excellent rebounder, and a decent rim protector.
A lot of the aspects of Aimaq’s game could help fill gaps in the Longhorns’ frontcourt unit that were costly to this team down the stretch last season. There’s a big reason why Aimaq was such an important target out of the transfer portal right away this offseason for Beard and the Longhorns staff.
We will continue to monitor any news surrounding the decision of Aimaq on April 29. This is a highly anticipated decision as Aimaq could wind up being Texas’ second transfer portal addition so far this offseason after Beard landed a commitment from the former New Mexico State Aggies senior shooting guard Jabari Rice last week.
