5 early top Texas football prospects to watch for 2023 NFL Draft
We just witnessed a very forgettable NFL Draft class coming out of the Texas football program this year. Texas had zero NFL Draft picks this year for the first time since 2014. That is obviously not the direction that second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff want this program trending in terms of producing NFL-caliber players.
Sark and the Longhorns staff should be turning a corner in this regard, though, with what looks to be a very promising 2023 NFL Draft class coming off the Forty Acres. The quality and depth of the 2023 draft class for the Longhorns will largely hinge on which players declare early following the coming college football season.
But it appears that Texas has nowhere to go but up from here after putting up a goose egg in this draft class in 2022.

Moreover, something to watch in the 2023 draft class among Longhorns players is the potential for the first-round pick drought to end. Texas hasn’t had a player picked in the first round since defensive tackle Malcom Brown was picked by the New England Patriots 32nd overall in the 2015 NFL Draft.
Texas also only has two first-round draft picks in the last decade between Brown and safety Kenny Vaccarro (picked 15th overall by the New Orleans Saints in 2013). I would expect the Longhorns to at least add one more to that list of first-round picks next year.
With that in mind, here’s a look at five early Longhorns players to watch as potential prominent prospects in the 2023 NFL Draft class.
