There were some position groups that lost a good amount of depth to the NCAA Transfer Portal since last fall for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program. And a good portion of the depth losses that Texas experienced came about in the last week or so.

Sark and the Longhorns staff saw more than a half-dozen players enter the transfer portal just since the conclusion of spring ball roughly one week ago. Not all of these departures to the transfer portal looked to be planned for the Longhorns either post-spring ball.

Yet, this is the world we live in now with the transfer portal ruling the college sports landscape each and every offseason. NIL just adds to the polarization of the transfer portal in this day and age.

Texas is going to have to find a way through this if they want to truly find success in the age of the transfer portal.

Who are some of the costliest depth losses to the transfer portal for Texas football post-spring ball?

But the signs are pointing up that Sark and the Longhorns staff will be able to work the transfer portal in their favor more often than not. There are multiple key additions that prove the success of the Longhorns in the portal in the last few months.

Barring the loss of the former TCU Horned Frogs edge rusher Ochaun Mathis to the Nebraska Cornhuskers last weekend, Texas has hit on about every one of their key transfer targets so far this offseason. Texas just needs to find more success upgrading the defensive side of the ball out of the portal.

Texas is doing plenty well on offense in the portal this offseason.

Following the conclusion of spring ball, though, Texas is going to have to continue to elevate their success in the portal thanks to the latest wave of entrants leaving the Forty Acres.

Here’s a look at three of the biggest losses for the Longhorns to the portal that could hurt depth-wise this year.
