Head coach Chris Beard essentially just experienced his first big whiff in the NCAA Transfer Portal since getting hired with the Texas basketball program last offseason. Beard and his staff missed out on a key transfer portal target entering the weekend with the former Mercer and Utah Valley star big man Fardaws Aimaq spurning Texas for the Big 12 foe Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Aimaq was considering five top schools ahead of his April 29 decision. Texas and Texas Tech were in a group of top schools that also included the likes of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Gonzaga Bulldogs, and Washington Huskies. But it sounded like Texas, Texas Tech, and Washington were the top trio among the finalists to land the commitment of Aimaq come his April 29 announcement.

Nonetheless, losing Aimaq hurts for Beard and the Longhorns considering the needs he could’ve filled in the frontcourt unit. Texas could’ve added a major force on the glass that can protect the rim pretty well, and stretch the floor with ease if they landed a commitment from Aimaq.

Where does Texas basketball turn for frontcourt help after missing on transfer Fardaws Aimaq?

It hurts even more that Aimaq is joining a Big 12 foe in head coach Mark Adams and the Red Raiders.

But Beard and the Longhorns staff won’t panic after losing the commitment of Aimaq to Texas Tech. There will be other options to fill out the frontcourt unit in the transfer portal for the remainder of the offseason.

With that in mind, here’s a look into three big men the Longhorns can target in the transfer portal after missing out on Aimaq a couple of days ago.
