Texas football in the mix for Pitt transfer WR Jordan Addison
The biggest name that surfaced on the transfer market, by a good margin, in the last week or so is expected to be pursued by the Texas football program this spring. The big name we’re talking about here in the NCAA Transfer Portal that Texas is expected to pursue is the reigning Biletnikoff Award winner and Pitt Panthers star sophomore wide receiver Jordan Addison.
Addison entering the transfer portal was news that broke the college football landscape over the weekend. The idea that Addison was essentially getting bought from Pitt is something that clearly angered the Panthers’ head coach Pat Narduzzi. And it looked like the target of Narduzzi’s anger was clearly the new USC Trojans head coach Lincoln Riley.
It’s easy to get the idea that USC offered Addison a bag to leave Pitt and test the waters on the transfer market. Given the outrage from Narduzzi and all the discussion in the last few days surrounding the potential of Addison to essentially get signed like a pro free agent with the Trojans, this conclusion makes sense.
But it seems like it’s anything but a foregone conclusion that Addison is going to commit to Riley and the Trojans out of the portal this spring. The sentiment looks to be that USC will be one of the favorites to nab a commitment out of the portal from Addison. It’s not a done deal yet, though.
Texas football tabbed as a school in the mix for Pitt transfer WR Jordan Addison
There are going to be other schools that kick the tires with pursuing Addison. And one of them looks to be Texas. Multiple reports (including from 247Sports) are indicating that Texas and USC will both be in the mix for Addison.
Some other schools to watch here could be the Oklahoma Sooners, Oregon Ducks, Alabama Crimson Tide, Georgia Bulldogs, and Miami Hurricanes. But it wouldn’t surprise me to see really any number of top/blue blood college programs jump into the conversation to target Addison out of the portal in the next few days.
For the time being, though, it will be interesting to see how second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and new wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator Brennan Marion evaluate the potential fit of Addison with this receiving corps. Texas is already pretty much set in terms of their top group of wideouts, especially after nabbing commitments out of the portal this offseason from the former Wyoming Cowboys redshirt freshman Isaiah Neyor and Alabama freshman Agiye Hall.
If Texas was somehow able to land a commitment from Addison out of the portal this offseason, it would be the fourth transfer addition to the wide receiver room. Texas landed the aforementioned wideout duo of Neyor and Hall along with a preferred walk-on in the former Montana senior grad transfer Gabe Sulser.
