4 notable former Texas football blue chips transferring to SMU
Heading into the current offseason, it was assumed that second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program were going to lose a good portion of the roster from last season to the NCAA Transfer Portal. Roster attrition looked like it would be a necessary part of the early portion of this offseason.
And that was certainly the case with more than a dozen of the Longhorns players from last season’s team entering the portal so far this offseason. That includes more than a half-dozen former Longhorns players entering the portal since the conclusion of spring camp alone.

It was only a couple of weeks ago that Sark and the Longhorns rounded out spring camp, which happened following the altered version of the annual Orange-White Game back on April 23.
Texas has replenished a lot of the depth lost via the transfer portal so far this offseason, though, with some key additions such as the former Ohio State Buckeyes freshman quarterback Quinn Ewers and Wyoming Cowboys breakout redshirt freshman wide receiver Isaiah Neyor.
Yet, one of the key landing spots for these former Longhorns players that entered the portal in the last few months lied with new head coach Sonny Dykes and the SMU Mustangs in the American Athletic Conference. Texas is getting close to a half-dozen former players leaving for SMU by way of the transfer portal.
