4 former blue-chip recruits Texas football should target in the portal
Honorable Mentions
Dreshun Miller, CB
A former Big 12 foe of the Longhorns that could be a worthy transfer portal target this spring that is also a former blue-chip recruit is the ex-West Virginia Mountaineers and Auburn Tigers redshirt senior cornerback Dreshun Miller. After spending just one year with Auburn, Miller could be an impact defensive back elsewhere as he seeks what is likely to be his last destination in college.
Miller was a stout corner for the Mountaineers a couple of seasons ago and could fill some depth needs for Texas in the secondary. He is also a familiar face in the Big 12 for the Longhorns from the time he spent in Morgantown.
A.J. Lytton, CB
Another quality former blue-chip defensive back recruit that remains uncommitted in the transfer portal at this point of the offseason is the former Penn State Nittany Lions and Florida State Seminoles junior cornerback A.J. Lytton. After spending just one year with Florida State, Lytton entered the transfer portal for the second time in his career.
Lytton is a bit more proven than Miller at multiple stops and he could be an immediate solution to add depth at the cornerback position in a potential backup role behind either senior D’Shawn Jamison or redshirt sophomore Ryan Watts.
Ezra Dotson-Oteyade, C
Among the most intriguing offensive linemen in the portal that offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood and the Longhorns should look into at this point of the offseason is the former Arizona State Sun Devils freshman center Ezra Dotson-Oteyade.
As someone that Texas scouted as a four-star center recruit coming out of high school, Dotson-Oteyade could be a nice addition that just happens to fall in the lap of Flood this spring/summer.
Cody Jackson, WR
A portal target that makes a lot of sense at the moment for the Longhorns is the former Oklahoma Sooners freshman wide receiver and four-star recruit Cody Jackson. After a freshman season where he only got a couple dozen snaps and where the coaching staff that recruited him left Norman for the most part, it’s sensible that Jackson would test the waters on the transfer market.
Texas could use more speedy and athletic wide receivers that could be a real threat coming out of the slot like Jackson. This could be a nice fit between Jackson and the Longhorns.
