The target in the NCAA Transfer Portal for the Texas football program that everyone is following at this point of the offseason is the reigning Biletnikoff Award winner and star sophomore Pitt Panthers wide receiver Jordan Addison. Second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and new wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator Brennan Marion are apparently making a big push in the portal post-spring ball to get a commitment from Addison.

Texas is fighting an uphill battle pursuing Addison, though, given that the heavy favorite appears to be new head coach Lincoln Riley and the USC Trojans. But that doesn’t mean that Sark, Marion, and the Longhorns are necessarily out of the running in the Addison sweepstakes as of yet.

In fact, the status of Texas pursuing Addison out of the portal appears to be anything but that.

A recent report from Orangebloods indicates that Texas is still very much involved in the recruitment of Addison. This Orangebloods report does note that USC is very likely still the overall favorite to land Addison this offseason.

Texas football reportedly still involved in the recruitment of transfer WR Jordan Addison

It sounds like you definitely can’t rule out other competitors for Addison such as Texas and the Alabama Crimson Tide at the moment, though. Texas is reportedly making a viable and appealing pitch to Addison and his camp since they first reached out last week.

The sentiment in the pursuit of Addison out of the portal at this point of the offseason seems to be that if schools like Texas and Alabama can get him on the books for a visit in the next few weeks or even the next couple of months, that would be a great sign for USC’s competition. USC did host Addison for a visit last weekend.

With Addison not having a set decision timeline yet and the ability to still take multiple other official visits in the spring and summer, there is still an opportunity for Texas and Alabama to strike.

All in all, it still feels like USC has a pretty decent lead in the race to land a commitment from Addison out of the portal. Yet, the fact that Texas and Alabama are still involved in Addison’s transfer process goes to show that the door isn’t closed yet. We will continue to monitor the situation with Addison in the portal this spring as more developments come about.
