Texas football has ‘cautious optimism’ with WR Jordan Addison
Regarding news coming out of the NCAA Transfer Portal of late concerning the Texas football program, all eyes are focused on what happens with the reigning Biletnikoff Award winner and former Pitt Panthers star sophomore wide receiver Jordan Addison. Texas has the commonly known connection between new wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator Brennan Marion and Addison from their time together at Pitt.
Marion was Pitt’s wide receivers coach last season when Addison had a genuine breakthrough campaign and won the Biletnikoff Award. And it sounds like Marion and second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian are personally heavily involved in the recruitment of Addison out of the portal in the last week or so.
Moreover, Addison looked to arrive on campus in Austin for an official visit with the Longhorns earlier this week. This visit came sooner than originally anticipated. But it is still a testament to Sark and Marion’s approach with Addison out of the portal post-spring ball that he is even visiting Texas in the first place.
Yet, all Texas fans want to now know how the visit is going and what the current status of Addison is compared to other competing schools to land his commitment out of the portal. From what we’re hearing, it looks like Texas is in a better spot than anticipated at this point of Addison’s recruitment out of the transfer portal.
Texas football making sizable moves with transfer WR Jordan Addison during his OV this week
According to a report from Hudson Standish of 247Sports on May 11 (paid content), Texas is in a spot with some “cautious optimism” in the midst of Addison’s visit to Austin. Texas has apparently made up “significant ground” in the last day or so during this official visit with Addison.
But we’ll caution Longhorns fans (as this 247Sports report notes) that Addison taking his official visit to Texas sooner than originally anticipated does open the door for other competing programs to get the final word. And that is going to be very valuable in this transfer process.
In all likelihood, new head coach Lincoln Riley and the USC Trojans are going to have the opportunity to get the final word with Addison if he visits this coming weekend. We’ll continue to monitor the visit schedule in the days and/or weeks ahead for Addison.
So, how could the visit schedule for Addison play out in a manner that would favor Texas?
Addison’s visit will reportedly end on May 11, which means his OV will have lasted a couple of days (May 10 and 11). Texas would likely want to see Addison arrive at a decision before he could take a visit with another one of his presumed top schools such as USC or the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Texas likely made a big impression on Addison during his official visit to Austin, at least from what we’ve heard thus far. Hence, Texas would be hoping to capture lightning in a bottle and see Addison not take any more trips anytime soon.
If Addison makes an announcement before this weekend arrives, right after a multi-day visit in Austin, you would have to figure that benefits Texas.
As we have throughout the week thus far, we will continue to monitor this situation with Texas pursuing Addison out of the portal, especially as his official visit to Austin concludes on May 11.
