3 Texas basketball players that would benefit from Tyrese Hunter
This weekend, second-year head coach Chris Beard and the Texas basketball program are hosting maybe their most important NCAA Transfer Portal target of the offseason so far. Beard and his staff are hosting the reigning Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and former Iowa State Cyclones freshman guard Tyrese Hunter.
Beard and the Longhorns staff are looking to really separate themselves from the rest of the competition in the race to land a commitment from Hunter out of the portal this spring. Texas is in the midst of a group of top schools in the Hunter sweepstakes that also includes the likes of the Tennessee Volunteers, Louisville Cardinals, Kansas Jayhawks, Gonzaga Bulldogs, and Purdue Boilermakers.
And given the fact that Hunter has already visited with the Vols, Zags, and Boilermakers, so far this offseason, it looks like this will be a really critical weekend for the Longhorns. Texas needs to leave Hunter with a really positive impression if they want to start setting the pace in the recruitment of this freshman stud out of the portal.
Which Texas basketball players would be the biggest benefactors from Tyrese Hunter transferring in next season?
If Texas were to nab Hunter this offseason, it would immediately bolster the backcourt unit. It could also give Beard and the Longhorns an immediate solution in terms of who the true starting point guard could be heading into next season.
There are also some individual Longhorns players that could greatly benefit from the addition of Hunter out of the portal this offseason. With that in mind, here’s a look at three Longhorns players that could benefit most from Hunter joining the mix ahead of the 2022-23 season.
