Devon Campbell, IOL

The highest-rated 2022 signee for the Longhorns is the elite five-star Bowie interior offensive lineman Devon Campbell. Texas landed the ultimate prize along the offensive line in the 2022 class by reeling in a commitment from Campbell on National Signing Day a few months ago.

And offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood and the Longhorns will be welcoming Campbell to campus in just a few weeks. Campbell is bound to make an instant impression on this coaching staff with how he’s shown out in various arenas since the end of the 2021 high school football season.

Texas also signed the 6-foot-3 and 315-pound Campbell knowing that he would be one of the most impact-ready offensive linemen in this recruiting class. Campbell brings a polished skill set to the table that will allow him to compete for reps at one of the spots along the interior of the offensive line right away this fall.

Flood and the Longhorns can help Campbell with some of his functional athleticism and fundamentals (especially with his hand usage) during summer workouts and fall camp.

There were also questions in the past about weight fluctuations for Campbell, so there will be an added emphasis on watching his conditioning during summer workouts. He’ll need to have a big showing in summer workouts to prove to Flood and the Longhorns staff that he’s ready to take some of the first-team reps early on in fall camp. That will be the main task at hand for Campbell in order to win a starting offensive guard spot for Week 1 against Louisiana-Monroe.

It looks like Campbell’s main competition for a starting spot at offensive guard will be rising sophomore Hayden Conner. Texas likely has the left guard spot locked down with rising senior Junior Angilau returning this offseason.
