Breaking down 4 transfers Texas football should offer this summer
Diamonte Tucker-Dorsey, LB*
One of the most intriguing post-spring camp entrants to the transfer portal that should be catching the eye of Kwiatkowski and Choate in the near future is the former FCS James Madison Dukes senior linebacker Diamonte Tucker-Dorsey. This reigning FCS All-American and 5-foot-11 and 215-pound grad transfer linebacker might be the best candidate that the Longhorns could find at the position in the portal at this point of the offseason.
Tucker-Dorsey entered the transfer portal earlier this week, and he’s likely to draw some attention given the lack of depth at the linebacker position otherwise.
But Texas should definitely be one of his biggest suitors given how this coaching staff really hasn’t addressed the need at the linebacker position via the portal so far this offseason. Getting Tucker-Dorsey on campus could be one of the biggest wins for this coaching staff considering some of the other portal misses in the last few months.
What a linebacker like Tucker-Dorsey could bring to the table for the Longhorns’ defensive front is an absolute stud that is a sure-tackler, hard hitter, and a proven leader. Tucker-Dorsey was a do-it-all middle linebacker for James Madison for the last few seasons that was an absolute stat-sheet stuffer in the process.
Just last season, Tucker-Dorsey registered 116 combined tackles, nine tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, 18 quarterback pressures, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, a whopping five interceptions, five pass breakups, and 55 stops.
Tucker-Dorsey would be exactly what the Longhorns need to upgrade the linebacking corps immediately ahead of next season. He would likely be able to compete for the starting job with rising senior Jaylan Ford at mike linebacker right away in fall camp.
