Head coach David Pierce and No. 22 ranked Texas baseball is about to start their final series of the regular season at home on May 19. Texas will host the Big 12 foe Kansas Jayhawks in a three-game weekend series at home to round out the regular season slate.

Pierce and the Longhorns are coming off a convincing win over the Sam Houston State Bearkats at home back on May 17. Texas put forward a well-rounded effort in essentially every phase of the game to top Sam Houston State at home on May 17 by the final score of 9-2.

That gives the Longhorns a record of 36-17 (11-10 Big 12) heading into this series opener against the Jayhawks on May 19. Texas has also won five of their last six games and is riding a two-game winning streak heading into this weekend series against the Jayhawks.

Meanwhile, Kansas comes into this series opener against Texas sporting a record of 20-32 (4-17 Big 12) following a weekend series sweep at the hands of the TCU Horned Frogs last weekend. Kansas was supposed to face the Mizzou Tigers on May 17 in Lawrence, but it was cancelled.

Kansas also rides a five-game losing streak dating back to a series against their in-state rival Kansas State Wildcats from last week.

Here’s a look at the betting odds, TV/streaming information, and game prediction as Texas hosts Kansas in a three-game weekend series at home at UFCU Disch-Falk Field in Austin, with the series opener set for 6:30 p.m. CT on May 19.

Texas baseball vs. Kansas prediction

Texas has built up some momentum in their last few games after suffering a bad series sweep at home a couple of weekends ago at the hands of the Oklahoma State Cowboys. And this three-game series against the Jayhawks to round out the regular season affords Texas another opportunity to keep building up momentum ahead of the Big 12 Tournament.

Pierce and the Longhorns have their ace Pete Hansen set to get the start against the Jayhawks on May 19. And then, the Longhorns have Lucas Gordon starting against the Jayhawks in the second game of this series on May 20. The starting pitcher in the finale is still listed as TBD.

But it feels like the driving force for the Longhorns to get this series win over Kansas will be the production of the offense. If the bats are hot for Texas to round out the regular season, then this should be a very manageable series win, or potentially even a sweep, over Kansas in the next few days.

And the spark to the Texas offense of late is the breakthrough stud infielder Ivan Melendez. As the nation’s home run and OPS leader, Melendez is on fire this season. He extended his Division I home run lead earlier this week with his 26th dinger of the season so far.

If the bats stay hot for Melendez and the Longhorns in this one, they should easily be able to take care of business in this series opener against the Jayhawks on the night of May 19. Texas could also put themselves in a spot to have more advantageous seeding in the Big 12 Tournament if they can knock off Kansas in this three-game series.

Final score prediction: Texas-8, Kansas-3
