In the last few months, head coach Chris Beard and the Texas basketball program remained rather quiet in terms of additions to the team via the recruiting trail for high school prospects and in the NCAA Transfer Portal. But that could change quickly in the latter stages of the spring, especially with how the transfer portal has heated up in the last couple of months.

Some of the top targets for Beard and the Longhorns in the transfer portal have started to announce their new landing spots. And that trend is going to continue on into the summer months.

Among the top targets for the Longhorns to watch that could have decisions announced soon from the portal are the former Iowa State Cyclones standout freshman guard Tyrese Hunter, Louisiana Tech Bulldogs stud big man Kenneth Lofton Jr., and Memphis Tigers freshman forward Emoni Bates, among others.

Which new additions for Texas basketball this spring are ready to stand out?

However, Beard and the Longhorns have also lost some notable players to the transfer portal already this offseason. Recognizable guards such as sophomore Devin Askew and senior Courtney Ramey have left via the transfer portal. And some notable former Longhorns players have already found their next landing spots out of the portal, including Askew (Kentucky) and junior big man Tre Mitchell (West Virginia).

Yet, the focus this offseason will remain on how Beard and the Longhorns staff are able to construct this roster to build on the postseason success next season. With that in mind, here’s a look at three additions for the Longhorns to watch this spring that are ready to shine during the 2022-23 season.
