3 spring additions for Texas basketball ready to shine in 2022-23
Arterio Morris, PG
Another potential starter in the backcourt for Beard and the Longhorns for next season is the former elite five-star recruit and incoming freshman point guard Arterio Morris. Texas signed Morris as a key part of the 2022 recruiting class. The Dallas-Kimball product was the second-highest-rated recruit in the 2022 class. And he was one of two five-star signees.
There’s a good chance that Morris will be one of the starting guards for the Longhorns alongside the returning super senior and former Pitt Panthers/Minnesota Golden Gophers transfer Marcus Carr.
Morris could find himself in an advantageous spot if he gets a slot in the starting five next to some gifted playmakers and scorers such as Carr and senior forward Timmy Allen. Morris himself is a gifted facilitator who should be one of the most capable freshman bucket-getters in the Big 12 next season.
Texas is also going to get a lot of defensive value from the 6-foot-3 and 180-pound Morris. He’s an incredibly gifted athlete that definitely has the physical tools to be a more than capable defender. Morris’ quickness and length are going to be very disruptive on the perimeter next season.
Morris will still be seeking to improve in terms of his shot selection and pull-up jumper. He’s lethal when he’s able to get to the bucket or find his open shot from the outside. But he struggles at times with both timing and getting separation when he’s matched up against a stout guard or wing on the perimeter.
