A&M, OU pushing for 4-Star Texas football RB commit Tre Wisner
One of the four blue-chip commits in the 2023 Texas football recruiting class is going to be a hot commodity heading into the summer months, with four-star DeSoto running back Tre Wisner. While Wisner has remained committed to Texas since the spring game weekend (specifically gave his pledge to Texas back on April 23), it looks like he’s going to use some of his official visits this summer.
According to a report from Inside Texas this weekend (paid content), Wisner is going to take official visits with the Miami Hurricanes and Florida State Seminoles. And it looks like Wisner could get additional visits on the books this summer with the likes of the Oklahoma Sooners, Texas A&M Aggies, Florida Gators, and/or the USC Trojans.
Wisner took unofficial visits with the likes of Texas A&M and Oklahoma as recently as April and January, respectively. In fact, Wisner visited the Aggies twice in the span of less than a month in the midst of spring ball last month.
He also visited Oklahoma once unofficially since the turn of the calendar year, which specifically came back on Jan. 29.
4-Star Texas football RB commit Tre Wisner still being actively pursued by Texas A&M and OU, among other schools
It’s also worth noting that Florida State and Miami are also pushing hard to try and flip the commitment of Wisner from Texas. But this doesn’t mean that Wisner is really exploring the option of de-committing from Texas this summer.
Wisner still has a very tight relationship with new Texas running backs coach Tashard Choice. The hiring of Choice as the next running backs coach for the Longhorns following the departure of Stan Drayton actually sparked Wisner to commit to Texas during the spring.
It’s also good to hear that Wisner is still actively recruiting other top targets for the Longhorns in this 2023 class entering the summer. That is another factor that can help the Longhorns reaffirm Wisner’s commitment to this 2023 class post-spring.
Nonetheless, I definitely expect competing schools on the recruiting trail for Wisner such as Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Miami, Florida State, etc. to still push for him this summer. Until Wisner officially announces he’s locking down his recruitment, Texas is likely going to see other schools actively recruit the blue-chip Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex product.
Texas currently holds commitments from five recruits in the 2023 class, as of the afternoon of May 22. Wisner is one of the two most recent blue-chip commits in the 2023 class, as he committed on the same day as the touted four-star Aldine Eisenhower (TX) wide receiver Ryan Niblett.
