3 Texas football 5-Star recruits ready to breakout in 2022
Quinn Ewers, QB
We’ve talked about the previous two former five-star recruits and uber-talented Longhorns players on this list before since the start of the offseason. But the final Longhorns player on this list could hold the keys to make-or-break the 2022 season, at least for the offense.
The former Ohio State Buckeyes freshman transfer quarterback and elite five-star Southlake Carroll recruit Quinn Ewers will have a very bright spotlight on him this fall. Assuming that Ewers is able to beat out the former four-star recruit and rising junior Hudson Card to win the starting quarterback job this coming season, he’ll be trusted to elevate this offense for Sark for the next couple of years.
Ewers does have all the weapons at his disposal necessary to take this offense to new heights in 2022. Skill position weapons such as star junior running back Bijan Robinson, star sophomore wide receiver Xavier Worthy, former Wyoming redshirt freshman wide receiver Isaiah Neyor, and the speedy rising redshirt junior wideout Jordan Whittington, should provide more than enough support for Ewers to succeed this fall.
But the main question marks surrounding Ewers this fall have to do with how he can deal with the pressure of being the starter for the Longhorns without much experience under his belt and how the offensive play holds up in front of him. The offensive line was the weak point of the offense last season. A solid incoming freshman class along the offensive line should help to solve at least some of that problem, though.
As to whether Ewers can deal with the immense pressure that could come along with being the starting quarterback this fall, we’ll have to wait and see how he’s able to handle a non-conference slate that includes Alabama and the UTSA Roadrunners at the outset of the regular season.
