Isaiah Neyor tabbed as a ‘home run fit’ for Texas football
In the midst of a big offseason of change to the receiving corps for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian, new wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator Brennan Marion, and the Texas football program, there are lofty expectations for this position group this coming season. Texas has already added one talented blue-chip receiver and three wideouts by way of the NCAA Transfer Portal so far this offseason.
And there’s not a whole lot of losses at the position that Sark, Marion, and the Longhorns have to deal with this offseason. Most of the departures to the portal for the Longhorns among wideouts were those that would’ve had trouble finding their way on the two-deep depth chart this fall.
Moreover, the three portal additions for the Longhorns at wide receiver so far this offseason include the former Iowa State Cyclones senior Tarique Milton, Alabama Crimson Tide touted freshman Agiye Hall, and Wyoming Cowboys breakout redshirt freshman Isaiah Neyor.
But there is likely one wideout among this trio of portal additions this offseason that will be the most impactful. Neyor looks like the wideout most capable of making an immediate impact for the Longhorns this coming season as a starter on the outside.
New Texas football WR Isaiah Neyor tabbed as a “home-run fit” off the transfer market
This is something that was recognized in a list released by Brad Crawford of 247Sports on May 25 among the “home-run fits” for portal players with their new teams.
Neyor was included among roughly a dozen transfers so far this offseason as a home run fit for the Longhorns. He was also the only portal addition for the Longhorns this offseason that made it on this list.
Crawford mentions in this 247Sports piece that he believes that Neyor will be a starter for the Texas receiving corps this fall alongside rising sophomore Xavier Worthy and redshirt junior Jordan Whittington. With him in this mix of talented wideouts, Crawford stated that he believes this is the deepest wide receiver room in the Big 12.
That’s not much of a stretch, though, especially after some of the moves that Sark, Marion, and the Longhorns have pulled off so far this offseason. There is a ton of talent and depth in the mix in this year’s receiving corps. Beyond the names already mentioned here, Texas could see the likes of redshirt sophomore Troy Omeire, redshirt freshman Jaden Alexis, and/or incoming freshman four-star speedster Brenen Thompson rise to the occasion this fall.
Neyor had a stellar redshirt freshman campaign at Wyoming last season where he registered 44 catches for 878 receiving yards (a whopping 20 yards per catch), with 13 total touchdowns. He’ll be looking to continue his breakout on the Power Five stage with the Longhorns during the 2022 season.
