Steve Sarkisian is now heading into his second season as the head coach of the Texas football program. And it’s clear that the standard must be raised for Texas this coming season compared to the result that Sarkisian and his staff produced in their first year at the helm last fall.

Sark and the Longhorns finished up last season with a record of 5-7 (3-6 Big 12), which resulted in the program falling short of bowl eligibility for the first time since 2016. There were some real lows that were set last season by this team, including the longest losing streak in conference play in more than a few decades.

While that was obviously not the start that Sark desired in his first year as the Longhorns’ head coach, it does leave ample room for improvement ahead of the 2022 season. It also could’ve brought some issues to light within the program much faster than they would’ve surfaced otherwise had Texas had a better result on the field last fall.

How Texas football head coach Steve Sarkisian has fared in other coaching stops in his career in Year 2?

As a result, we would expect change to come fast this year. And a lot of that change has come to fruition as Sark and the Longhorns saw some roster attrition take place in the last six months or so. The coaching staff has also gone through some changes, mostly for the better, since the start of the offseason.

But the real test will come for Sark this fall to see if he and his staff can really right the ship for good. Given that, it’s worth taking a look back to see how Sark has fared as a second-year coach at the collegiate and NFL ranks throughout his career.

Here’s a look at the result from Year 2 of each stop in Sark’s coaching career in college and the pros.
