Texas Football: 5 bold predictions for the Longhorns in 2022
Roughly 100 days from the start of the 2022 college football season, second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program have the excitement building for what lies ahead this fall. Texas will set out to be one of the most improved teams in the Big 12 this fall.
With Sark and the Longhorns coming off a disappointing 2021 campaign where this program missed out on bowl eligibility for the first time since 2016, expectations will be modest. But that doesn’t mean that mediocre will get the job done for the Longhorns in 2022.
Texas needs to at least show marked improvement on both sides of the ball this coming season in order to prove that this program is headed in the right direction under Sark. He and his staff got a bit of a pass for the lowly results in Big 12 play last season. The same likely won’t be able to be said if Sark and the Longhorns fall drastically short of expectations this fall.
What bold predictions do we have for Texas football in 2022?
Yet, this season is likely going to have some ups and downs still. The ceiling for this team is high in 2022, but the floor could be pretty low too. That is largely due to the inexperience that is still present among the players projected to be in the two-deep depth chart this season.
This group also hasn’t played together for all that long, which could come back to haunt the Longhorns with a challenging non-conference schedule to start the season.
It looks like the ceiling for this team could realistically be winning the Big 12 Championship and making it back to a New Year’s Six Bowl for the first time since 2018. Meanwhile, the floor could be another five or six-win season, which would likely put Sark on the hot seat entering the 2023 offseason.
With all of this in mind, here’s a look at five bold predictions for the Longhorns for the 2022 season.
