Texas Football: 5 bold predictions for the Longhorns in 2022
Quinn Ewers finishes top 10 in the Heisman voting
All the hype surrounding the Texas offense this year seems to revolve around the former Ohio State Buckeyes freshman transfer quarterback and elite five-star recruit Quinn Ewers. This former Texas commit and Southlake Carroll High School product is expected by most to be the starting quarterback at the outset of the regular season.
Ewers is currently duking it out with the fellow former blue-chip recruit and rising junior Hudson Card to win the quarterback competition this fall. Ewers and Card were stuck in the midst of this quarterback battle since the beginning of spring camp. And it looks like Ewers made some of the necessary strides to win the starting job at some point in fall camp.
If Ewers is able to seal the deal in the quarterback competition over Card in the next few months, the sky could be the limit for him this fall. The arm talent that Ewers brings to the table combined with some of the weapons he’ll have surrounding him at the skill positions is why there is so much anticipation about what this offense can do this coming season.
It’s also worth noting that the track record of quarterback development that Sark brings to the table as a head coach/offensive coordinator bodes well for Ewers this year. All told, the ceiling for Ewers (if everything goes his way) is definitely a route that will lead to some Heisman chatter this fall.
In order for Ewers to get in the conversation to finish in the top 10 of the Heisman voting this season, he’ll likely need to throw for at least 3,500 yards and 30 passing touchdowns, with 10 picks or fewer.
Getting to that mark for passing yards and passing touchdowns will be attainable for Ewers. Avoiding a lofty number of interceptions will be a big challenge for him.
