Shooting guard: Marcus Carr

One of the most important returning pieces for the Longhorns for next season is the former Minnesota Golden Gophers and Pitt Panthers fifth-year senior guard Carr. Returning for his second season with Beard and the Longhorns, Carr will be a valuable veteran voice to have in this locker room.

Carr also has momentum coming off a really spirited run in the NCAA Tournament to cap last season. He was one of the most impressive Longhorns players through the two NCAA Tournament games for the Longhorns a couple of months ago.

And that will be key for the Longhorns to help stabilize this backcourt unit with all of the youth and inexperience that will be in the mix heading into next season. Gone are the likes of senior guard Marcus Carr, redshirt senior shooting guard/wing Andrew Jones, and even potentially redshirt senior sharpshooting guard/wing Jase Febres.

That places Carr in an even more crucial veteran leadership role, where he will be leaned upon to mentor all the young guards in this backcourt unit.

Potentially the biggest x-factor for Carr next season, though, will be his ability to shift his role to playing more minutes as a pure shooting guard, or more likely a combo guard. Carr will still get a good amount of usage next season, but he will not be facilitating the offense in the starting unit nearly as much with Hunter in the mix.
