Texas baseball gets rematch with Oklahoma State in Big 12 Tourney
The game that could be the route for head coach David Pierce and the five-seed Texas baseball in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship to reach the final round is set for the morning of May 28. Texas is set to take on the four-seed Oklahoma State Cowboys on May 28 in a rematch of the first game in the Big 12 Tournament at Globe Life Field in Arlington, TX.
Pierce and the Longhorns took down the Pokes in the first game of the Big 12 Tournament back on May 25, by the final score of 4-0. Texas pitched the shutout of Oklahoma State thanks to a stellar effort on the mound from the stud redshirt sophomore ace Pete Hansen.
In one of his best starts of the season so far, Hansen gave the Longhorns 7.2 solid innings of work on the mound where he shut out the Pokes. Hansen also came up with a whopping dozen strikeouts against the Pokes on May 25 while allowing just two walks and three hits.
If Hansen is taking the mound for the Longhorns against the Pokes on May 28, it will be interesting to see if he can continue his solid pitching to get this team onto the final round of the Big 12 Tournament.
David Pierce and Texas baseball could have Pete Hansen ready for a rematch against Oklahoma State
Moreover, depending on what happens between Texas and Oklahoma State on the morning of May 28, this could be the first of two games between these two teams during the holiday weekend. Since this is a double-elimination tournament, Texas only needs to beat Oklahoma State once to face either the two-seed Texas Tech Red Raiders or three-seed Oklahoma Sooners in the final game of the Big 12 Tournament.
Yet, Oklahoma State would have to beat Texas twice in order to move onto the final round of the Big 12 Tournament.
Oklahoma State made it this far in the Big 12 Tournament to face the Longhorns on May 28 by winning two games in the last couple of days. On May 26, Oklahoma State dominated the eight-seed Baylor Bears by a double-digit run margin. And then, Oklahoma State downed the top-seeded TCU Horned Frogs on May 27 by the final score of 8-4 to stay alive this weekend.
Texas got to this point by beating Oklahoma State 4-0 on May 25 and then taking care of business against TCU on May 26, 5-3. Pierce and the Longhorns will face Oklahoma State on May 28 at Globe Life Field, with the first pitch time set for 9 a.m. CT.
