With the impending move from the Big 12 to the SEC, the Texas football program and Oklahoma Sooners are getting set to move the college football landscape into a new era. Texas and Oklahoma had the news announced last summer that they would be leaving the Big 12 for the greener pastures of the SEC, which sparked another round of the conference expansion conversation.

The major unknown factor that is still associated with this looming move for the Longhorns and Sooners to leave the Big 12 for the SEC is when this will officially happen. It looks like the deadline for these two schools to officially join the SEC will be 2025.

But there are still some discussions pegging Texas and Oklahoma to join the Big 12 by the start of the 2023 season. That seems a little too soon to become reality, though. In a more realistic sense, it seems like the first year that we could expect the Longhorns and Sooners to be officially playing in the SEC is 2024.

Which SEC schools would likely want to avoid being in the same division as Texas football and OU?

It will be interesting to see how this timeline emerges in the next 6-12 months.

Another interesting emerging storyline upon the move for Texas and Oklahoma to leave the Big 12 for the SEC will be how this conference decides to place these two schools. The two realistic options here seem to be the SEC splitting into four-team pods or two eight-team divisions.

Although, that will at least leave a couple of schools not so happy with how the chips fall with Texas and Oklahoma officially joining the SEC.

Here’s a look into the three SEC schools that should want to avoid the Longhorns and Sooners, especially in football, once the move is officially made to leave the Big 12.
