Mizzou

There are two former Big 12 foes of the Longhorns and Sooners that would probably want to avoid playing them on an annual basis in big-time sports such as football and basketball. The first we’re covering on this list is the Mizzou Tigers.

Mizzou bolted from the Big 12 for the SEC roughly one decade ago. The last season that Mizzou played in the Big 12 was back during the 2011 season. That was a time when the football program was definitely riding a high, as former head coach Gary Pinkel led the Tigers to three double-digit win seasons in the last five years this team was in the Big 12.

Pinkel and Mizzou also continued their momentum in the early stages of joining the SEC. Mizzou won the SEC East division crown in two of their first three years playing in that conference (back in 2013 and 2014).

But the fortunes for the Tigers aren’t quite as good in the last six or eight years in the SEC, especially for the football program. Since the 2014 season, Mizzou doesn’t have a single double-digit win season under their belt and they’ve only had two winning campaigns.

It seems like Mizzou wouldn’t benefit a whole lot from Texas and Oklahoma playing in the same division as them, especially for football, considering some of the declines this program already saw in recent years. The same could be said for a Mizzou basketball program, which was really sliding since they joined the SEC back in 2012.

Mizzou probably wouldn’t be too avid in putting up a fight to avoid playing in the same division in the SEC as Texas and Oklahoma. But this is definitely a school that would prefer to stay away from them in the future if at all possible.
