Arkansas

The only SEC school on this list that is not a former Big 12 foe of the Longhorns and Sooners is the Arkansas Razorbacks. But there are some pretty storied rivalries that the Razorbacks have, especially in football, with both the Longhorns and Sooners. And one of those rivalries continued to heighten last year when head coach Sam Pittman and the Razorbacks downed Texas in Fayetteville in convincing fashion in Week 2.

Yet, the long-term prospects of the Razorbacks being able to compete with both the Longhorns and Sooners in sports such as football and basketball could be called into question. Texas and Oklahoma facing Arkansas on an annual basis in football could also mean more competition for Pittman and the Razorbacks on the recruiting trail.

That wouldn’t do much to favor Arkansas over the long haul in terms of the growth and national prominence of the football program.

Arkansas also is currently one of the more well-rounded athletic programs in the SEC. But that could change if two athletic juggernauts such as Texas and Oklahoma were playing in the same division/pod as them in the SEC. Texas is a consistent national contender in sports such as baseball, volleyball, track & field, softball, golf, women’s basketball, etc.

And Oklahoma is often a national contender in many of those same sports. You can also add gymnastics to that list of sports the Sooners dominate at.

All of those sports that the Longhorns and Sooners are national contenders in wouldn’t bode well for the all-around success of Razorbacks athletics either. It seems like Arkansas would probably want to stay distanced from both schools whenever they officially leave the Big 12 for the SEC.
